08 Oct Time Out ‘Love London’ Awards: Vote for bookshops and libraries

Regular visitors to this site will be well aware that the special edition of The Box of Demons is only available from independent bookshops. (If you’re not aware, then read this.) Since the book was published, I’ve visited many of the shops stocking it – and have been in touch with many more on Twitter – and have been blown away by the support they’ve shown me. So I think it’s time for me to support some of them back. (Well, the London ones, at least.)

Time Out are currently running their Love London Awards, where people can vote for their favourite London businesses. There are a number of bookshops listed, and I’ve voted for as many as I can. I’d urge you to do the same, which is why I’ve put together a list of all the indie bookshops up for awards by area. (Note: not all of them stock The Box of Demons. Some are very, very specialist.)

You can vote only once in each category for each area, but you can vote in as many areas as you like. If you, like me, love bricks-and-mortar bookshops then perhaps you won’t mind taking the time to vote for some or all of these:

Bloomsbury & Holborn: Atlantis Bookshop, Bookmarks, Persephone Books, Treadwell’s Bookshop

Covent Garden & The Strand: Natalie Galustian Rare Books

Hackney: Broadway Bookshop, Donlon Books

Holloway: Kindness Offensive Bookshop

Kentish Town & Tufnell Park: The Owl Bookshop

Kilburn & West Hampstead: West End Lane Books

Leyton: All You Read Is Love

Marylebone: Daunt Books

Muswell Hill: Muswell Hill Children’s Bookshop

Notting Hill & Westbourne Park: Luytens & Rubinstein

Shoreditch & Hoxton: Artwords Bookshop

Stoke Newington: Stoke Newington Bookshop

Wood Green: Big Green Bookshop

The following libraries are also in the running for awards, in the ‘Local Culture’ category:

Brixton Library, Camden Library, Hornsey Library, Dulwich Library, Ealing Central Library, Belsize Library (Hampstead), Lewisham Library, Peckham Library, Canada Water Library

(Also, my friends’ restaurant, Tomo Pizzeria, is nominated in the Restaurant category for Crouch End & Hornsey, if you don’t mind doing them a favour while you’re at it.)

You can vote here.Voting is free, but you do need to register. It only takes a minute, particularly if you do it through social media.
